In AX 2012 you will sometimes run into an unexpected issue such as an error, client crash, unable to save. These issue can be very hard to pin down. To save yourself a lot of headache and hair tearing out, try clearing your “App Cache”. But how does one do that?

Start by Closing your AX 2012 Client. Next go to the C drive (usually your OS Drive) > users > “Your User” > App Data > Local. If you do not see the app data folder, that is because it’s hidden. So simply type \appdata in your address bar to access the folder. Once you’re in the “Local” folder, delete all the .KTI and .AUC files. Open your AX 2012 client again and try your operation again.

Taking things a step further:

If you find that you need to clear your app data even somewhat frequently, it might be worth creating a batch file to “do the work for you”. To do this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open a blank notepad file.
  2. Type the flowing lines
    1. del “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ax*.kti”
    2. del “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\ax*.auc”
      1. Note: using %USERPROFILE% will let this batch file work for any user on any AX2012 server.
  3. Click File > Save As
  4. Make sure you change the “Save as Type” to “All Files (*.*)”
  5. Once you name the file, make sure to add .bat to the end
    1. This will save it as a batch file.
  6. Click “Save” and your all set

Simply double click the batch job, and your App Data will be cleaned for you. Make sure to close your AX 2012 client first.
