Checking Dynamics AX 2012 Version Numbers & Applied Hotfixes

With any Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 environment, it's important to make sure you apply a hotfix to that environment that applies to all AX 2012 components in that environment.

With spread out environments, applying a hotfix everywhere is challenging. To make things easier in the future, it's a good idea to periodically review the version numbers on all AX 2012 components installed in your environment. Make sure all components such as AOS, AX Client, Business Connector, are up to date. During this process, you also want to check to verify that any KB hotfixes you might have installed are applied to all of the Ax2012 components you have installed in your environment.

How to check the following components:

  • AOS version
  • AX Client version
  • Business Connector version

Check AOS Version

  1. An easy way to check the current version of your AOS is to do the following:
  2. Navigate to the following file path and locate the Ax32Serv.exe file
    1. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Server\{your AX instance name}\bin
  3. Right click on the Ax32Serv.exe file and select properties
  4. Select the details tab and check the “File version”

AX Client Version

The AX2012 Client’s version can be checked in the same way. Just use the file patch below, and look for the Ax32.exe file.

C:\Program Files (86x)\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Server\Bin

Business Connector Version

Similarly the Business Connector can be checked using the file path below. Just look for the AxCilCfg.exe.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Business Connector\Bin

As you will see, these file version should match up to what you see inside Ax2012. To check your application and kernel version from within AX2012, follow these steps:

Open the AX2012 client

  • In the top right of the client window, you should see a “?” in a blue circle. Click on it.
    • In the dropdown select “About Microsoft Dynamics AX” link.

In the form that opens you will see the Application and Kernel version numbers listed.
